Hypothalamus is a tiny structure located in the brain that’s main function to maintain homeostasis. It also has a number of other functions such as controlling organ function, autonomic nervous system, emotional responses, regulation of body temperature, hunger and thirst sensations, behaviour, regulation of wake/sleep cycles, formation of memories and it also plays a huge role in the endocrine system. When looking at the overall health of your horse it’s important to consider all aspects of what may be going on to ensure we get to the root of the problem to keep our horses happy and healthy!
